Hikes in Tenerife

Follow the Canary Bird on his trails!

Visit my account on Wikiloc  Kanarenvogel auf Wikiloc, where I have recorded some hikes. Most of them are in the Anaga Mountains.

I recommend you to start with the closest hikes.  Exemplarily I mention a few below. As I said on Wikiloc there are more and in different levels of difficulty.

Some of the hikes can be found as a post on my travel blog in the category Hiking with links to videos.

Directly from the front door you can do a small hike with beautiful views over Mesa del Mar and El Pris.

Tenerife. Norte. Mesa del Mar - downhill to beach - El Pris

For this hike starting from Cliffhanger follow this path

For this hike with starting point at Jacaranda start here. The trails connect on the unpaved road.

Tenerife. Norte. Ravelo. Las Calderetas - Las Lagunetas: in the pine tree forest

One of my favorite trails especially in summer when the pine tree forest and the bushes smell pleasantly of French maquis. You walk in the forest, therefore protected from the sun. Very pleasant in the heat. At the top, as a reward, you can eat at the local restaurant Las Lagunetas. Payment only in cash!  Hiking trail Las Lagunetas

Tenerife. Anaga. Punta del Hidalgo - Chinamada

Hiking with a little more effort, yet suitable for all ages and quickly accessible: Up to Chinamada.
About 30 minutes by car to Punta del Hidalgo. Park there and start walking.
At the top, one of my favorite restaurants in the mountains awaits you with good Canarian food. Here it is worth to eat carne de cabra. Take a look at the restaurant, which is a cave. Is not called La Cueva for nothing. Important: Restaurant only open from Wednesday.

Climbing Pico del Teide

If you want to climb to the top of Pico del Teide and you dare to do so, you need a permit. This must be booked in advance, usually several weeks in advance ONLINE. If you want to climb outside the regular times, you can do this at sunrise or sunset under certain circumstances. Info about this and possibly booking a guide on request from me.

A small foretaste I can offer with my contribution march in the sky so's to Pico del Teide. I climbed from Montaña Blanca up to 3,500 meters. No permit is needed for this and the hike offers spectacular views. From 3,00 meters it becomes exhausting, because of thin air.

Important note: Be sure to bring warm clothing including hat and gloves. Good shoes, sunscreen, sunscreen and water! There is no alpine pasture with refreshments up there!

With the Teleferico on the Teide

Even if you only want to take the Teleferico up to 3,500 meters, you have to request the ride ONLINE in advance. Sometimes people jump off, then still places become free, it is worthwhile therefore always times to look. Check the information I put on the top attractions site where you will find the links for making reservations.

Here are my posts about hiking in Tenerife on my Kanarenvogel (Canary Bird) travel blog.
